AI Transforming India’s Supply Chains: Industry Meets Academia

Bridging AI, Academia & Industry — Shaping the Future of Supply Chains 🇮🇳
Grateful to have been part of the 3rd Industry–Academia Interface Conference on Logistics and Warehousing 2026, organised by OPUS – The Operations Club NCR Club at Great Lakes Institute of Management Gurgaon.
What stood out wasn’t just the theme of AI in Operations & Supply Chain — it was the maturity of the dialogue around strategy, governance, and the future of work.
At a time when Artificial Intelligence is redefining operations, supply chains, and manufacturing, such platforms are no longer optional.
They are where frameworks get shaped.
🎤 The keynote by Dr. Sunil Luthra (Director, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)) emphasized something critical — education must move in sync with industrial transformation, not behind it. He also talked about multiple initiatives launched by the government to facilitate Industry-Academia collaboration .
It was an honour sharing the stage and learning from the invaluable experience of :
• Seshadri (Seshu) Kulkarni— Warehousing Association of India
• Angad Reyar — Amazon
• Dr. Surya Prakash — Great Lakes Institute of Management
• ALOK KUMAR SINGH — PICCADILY AGRO INDUSTRIES LIMITED
• Santosh Singh — Tropilite Foods Pvt Ltd
• Puja Tiwari — Warehousing Association of India
💬 My core reflection from the panel:
India does not just need AI tools.
It needs AI infrastructure.
Not isolated automation.
But integrated operating systems.
Not dashboards.
But decision layers.
In warehousing — especially across India’s fragmented, SME-heavy ecosystem — the real opportunity lies in building a digital operating layer that connects manpower, logistics, inventory, compliance, finance, and infrastructure into one intelligent system.
At Hyphen SCS, we see this transition underway —
from software as record-keeping to AI as a system-of-execution.
From digitization to orchestration.
If India aligns policy, academia, and industry around this shift,
we won’t just modernise supply chains —
We will formalise and intelligently power millions of square feet of infrastructure across the country.
The students asked the right question:
“How do we build AI that works for Bharat, not just for boardrooms?”
That is the question that will define the decade.
The future of the supply chain will be intelligent.
But more importantly, it must be inclusive, scalable, and built for India.
