Quote What makes you happy ? by Arun Pandit
What makes you happy ?
The ” Goods” that you have …
or the “Good” that you do …
– Arun Pandit
Happiness, for many, stems more from the “good” that they do rather than the material “goods” they possess. The joy derived from possessions is often fleeting. While acquiring a new gadget or luxury item can provide a temporary boost in happiness, this feeling usually diminishes as one becomes accustomed to the new possession. On the other hand, the fulfillment from doing good—helping others, contributing to the community, or making a positive impact—tends to have a more lasting effect.
Engaging in acts of kindness fosters a sense of purpose and connection. It strengthens social bonds, creates a sense of belonging, and enhances self-worth. When we help others, our brains release endorphins, the “feel-good” chemicals, which can lead to what some call a “helper’s high.” This intrinsic reward system makes altruistic behavior a powerful and enduring source of happiness.
Moreover, doing good aligns with many people’s core values and beliefs, reinforcing their sense of identity and purpose in life. In contrast, material goods often serve as mere symbols of status and success, which are externally validated and thus less stable sources of happiness. Ultimately, the fulfillment from contributing positively to others’ lives resonates deeper and lasts longer, making the “good” that we do a more profound source of happiness.
