Inspiring Leader Samrendra Mohan Kumar Sir: A Powerful Mentor Story

Some people attend global conferences for panels, deals, and visibility.
One of my biggest reasons to attend the Horasis India Meeting was far simpler—and deeply personal: to meet Samrendra Mohan Kumar sir.
What makes Sam sir truly remarkable isn’t just his illustrious journey as an Army veteran, entrepreneur, global risk expert, and Co-Founder & Managing Director of MitKat Advisory .
It’s his kindness—and his quiet, consistent habit of helping everyone around him, without hierarchy or expectation.
Throughout the event, I watched him do what comes most naturally to him: bringing people together, opening doors for young founders, supporting veterans, encouraging first-time entrepreneurs, and making thoughtful introductions—often without anyone even realising the impact he was creating.
No spotlight. No noise.
Just genuine intent to uplift.
I remember a few years back when I met him for the first time.
Even then, what stood out was how effortlessly he made time for people—listening patiently, guiding generously, and treating everyone with equal respect.
That warmth hasn’t changed; if anything, it has only grown stronger.
At Horasis, when I shared my vision for building Hyphen SCS into India’s de-facto warehousing and fulfilment platform, he listened carefully—and then, in his characteristic way, went beyond words.
He personally introduced me to over 20 global leaders, generously vouching for me and calling Hyphen SCS “one to watch from India.”
That kind of belief, coming from someone of his stature, stays with you.
The moment felt even more personal—like meeting a senior Sainiki brother, bound by shared values and discipline that trace back to Sainik School Sujanpur Tira.
A distinguished alumnus of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, King’s College London, and the Joint Services Command & Staff College (UK), Sam sir today advises some of the world’s largest corporations—yet remains deeply grounded, accessible, and generous with his time.
His greatest contribution, in my view, isn’t strategy or scale.
It’s how many people he carries forward with him.
I am deeply grateful fo his warmth, encouragement, and belief—and I carry a quiet promise to honour that trust.
Some leaders command rooms.
Some leaders build institutions.
Very few leaders make everyone around them feel seen.
Sam sir does all three—with grace. 🇮🇳
What also stood out was the calibre of people Sam sir naturally brings together.
One such interaction was with Vijay Sambamurthi, Founder at Lexygen.
With decades of experience advising VC/PE funds, family offices, and high-growth startups across private equity, M&A, and fund structuring, Vijay represents the kind of institution-builder who strengthens ecosystems quietly—through governance, mentorship, and long-term thinking.
