Kapil Bharati sir “ Don’t fall in love with your solution. Focus on the problem. You don’t need a rocket to kill a fly “

It was a joy for me and Pauneet Nanda to meet Kapil Bharati sir, CTO and Co-founder of Delhivery, India’s largest logistics startup, as part of the Velocity Logistics cohort hosted by Pandurang Nayak from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in collaboration with Delhivery and Nexus Venture Partners.

During this insightful interaction, we gained valuable insights into various aspects of the logistics industry and interesting learnings from the journey of Delhivery:

* The lesser-known story of Delhivery initially starting with food delivery
* Pivoting to e-com due to anticipated future demand
* Lack of infrastructure and players to execute
* Starting with a monolithic stack initially
* Joy of growing from 100 to 450 packets per week during Diwali week
* 1st Phase of Tech – focusing on bringing visibility (Initial 3-4 years)
* 2nd Phase of Tech – post 15k shipments per week: Breaking the monolithic stack into smaller stacks
* 3rd Phase of Tech – focused on the integration of internal and external applications
* For the initial 3-4 years as a CTO, he was involved in everything with a small team of 5-6 people
* The importance of collecting data to build better products
* Use of applications to collect data
* We can even give the product for free for some time
* Buy data if required: Clean data set if your own data set is not very dense
* After 50 million data points you can go for a data science team
* Initially, there were  no proper TMS available  that fitted their requirements
* Lack of Multi-tenant and multi-client WMS
* Bar code scanning failed for B2B . SKU-based scan succeeded
* Bar code scanning working well for B2B – E-com segment
* Buy what’s not core to your business
* Build tech stack architecture in-house
* Don’t force fit
* Developers are not very good at documentation/commenting
* Building innovation from India
* Building a technology stack for developing countries
* Data intelligence platform for Arab countries: Mapping stack
* Route optimization and cost optimization technology – Dense Mesh
* Logistics: Slowest to adopt technology
* Low investment in automation
* Technology evolution: Assisted – Guided – Directed

Thank you for taking the time to understand what we are building at Hyphen SCS and connecting with your relevant team members for a possible partnership with your prestigious organization.

I am confident that it will help us become both better and faster in our pursuit of building India’s biggest and most referred warehousing and fulfillment platform.
