I had the honor of getting mentorship from the legendary Richard Rekhy sir, Former Partner & CEO of KPMG India, and current board member of KPMG Lower Gulf for becoming a better leader in our pursuit of building Hyphen SCS into India’s biggest warehousing and fulfillment platform via the Young Leaders Council AIMA by Young Leaders Council AIMA last year virtually over a Zoom call.

He was kind enough to share his invaluable experiences and most importantly shared the learnings from his biggest failures.

His focus was on building a good culture, being a good human being, learning and developing the team, the importance of having mentors, a positive mindset during tough times, trusting your gut feeling, relentless pursuit of customer delight, Don’t Give Up attitude, passion and the ability to take tough decisions.

And I am glad to finally meet him in person yesterday and further learn from his experiences and wisdom garnered across decades via multiple examples from his life.

We discussed:
* The importance of alliances
* Gig Economy
* Solutions approach over fault finding
* The power of first impressions
* Believing your gut
* Leaders showing a positive face
* Taking the problems head on
* Avoiding short-term gains trap
* The unimaginable power of relationships even at the top firms
* Data-driven decision-making over what you think should be right
* Building a legacy
* Helping the bottom 20%
* Customer delight and Anticipatory services
* The impact you make while touching the lives of people around you
* Taking customer feedback in the right spirit
* Unit economics
* Building a personal brand
* Top 3 agenda items in all board meetings
* Indian Talent is the most important asset we have

He focused on taking time to take a decision but going all in once you have decided. You can’t be half-pregnant!

It was the most rewarding 90 minutes of the year and I am grateful to sir for making us so comfortable and sharing the biggest truths and learning of his life in such a simple and easy-to-consume manner to a young leader like me.

I came out more mature and wiser after interacting with you.

Thank you once again sir for your time, motivation, and blessings!

I will implement the learning and hopefully, someday make you proud and happy to say that I am your mentee!
